Our Story

I started Scale and Timber, LLC to provide an outlet for my creative, hands on side while bringing home a little extra income to support our growing family as we welcome our first child this August (if it’s after August and you’re reading this, please forgive the new father for forgetting to update the website between diaper changes).

I build my skills with woodworking every day as I craft quality pieces for you to enjoy in your life. My partner, Ashley and I are both native Topekans, though I transplanted here at the age of 7. We met in middle school and began to date in High School. We love Topeka and are proud to call it home. I take great pride in building the community up through volunteer efforts, my 9-5 career, and now through my woodworking projects.

As this business is a side hustle, I frequently work at odd hours. I will try to respect your time as a client as much as I ask that you respect mine, and when I inevitably send you a communication outside of normal business hours just know that it is because that is when I was able to sit down to the administrative part of this business and that your replies are not expected until it is convenient for you.

Scale and Timber founder Lucas Ryan Kisses his partner Ashley on the forehead while she grins at the camera. His head is turned and only his right side is visible. He is wearing a grey sweater as is she.
